First stage results for 2015 nanotech and materials call

The European Commission has announced headline results for three Industrial Leadership calls focusing on nanotechnologies, advanced materials and production (NMP).

A €148.3m call ran initially from 22 October 2014 until 26 March 2015. Though there is a second cut-off date for project proposals on 8 September 2015, the Commission has announced it has received 469 applications for funding so far. Across ten topics, the most bids for Horizon 2020 money were received for the ‘Fibre-based materials for non-clothing applications’ topic, which had 125 submissions. This was followed by 93 funding requests for the ‘Materials for severe operating conditions, including added-value functionalities’, and 70 bids for ‘Novel materials by design for substituting critical materials’.

Results have also been announced for a second €64.4m call for NMP research. The call also closed on 26 March 2015, and 202 proposals were received overall, including 76 for ‘Novel nanomatrices and nanocapsules’ and 50 for ‘Integration of novel nanomaterials into existing production lines’.

In an additional call, available funding worth €12.7m saw a total of two application proposals for the topic ‘ERA-NET on Materials (including Materials for Energy)’, whilst a final call obtained 16 proposals looking to share €2.6m in funding across three topics, including nine research proposals submitted to the topic entitled ‘Societal engagement on responsible nanotechnology’.

All these calls also ran from October until March.
