ERC helps Brazilian researchers
An initiative that will foster international collaboration between top Brazilian and European Research Council (ERC)-funded researchers has been launched in Brussels, Belgium.
The Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, and the President of the Brazilian National Council of State Funding Agencies (CONFAP), Sergio Luiz Gargioni, signed the deal in the presence of ERC Vice-President Professor Klaus Bock.
This agreement is set to encourage young Brazilian scientists to join ERC grantees’ research teams, conducting frontier research across Europe.
On the occasion of the signing, Moedas said: “The agreement signed today is happy news for global science co-operation and very much in line with our strategy ‘Open to the World’.
“Top science is inherently international and this initiative will encourage this mindset further. Young Brazilian talent can join forces with grantees of the ERC across Europe, which will help to push their research further and give them the opportunity to gain international experience. It will clearly benefit both the European teams and the bright minds coming from Brazil.”
Bock added: “We are very pleased with this new addition to the many international initiatives launched with our counterparts around the globe over the last few years.
“It is clear to the ERC that scientific talent needs to interact and work closely together. Scientific exchange at top levels is extremely valuable and may well lead to further scientific advancements which will benefit all.”
