MSCA ESOF satellite event in Manchester

Alumni of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) and of the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) are invited to a free event at Manchester University, UK.

Taking ‘Researcher and Society’ as its theme, the event will reflect on the researcher’s mission within and moral duty to society, to share knowledge with the public, and to be ethical and transparent when presenting scientific data.

Other activities are to include discussions on how researchers can become involved in EU science policy, and explorations into open science in workshops. Opportunities to participate in an ‘elevator pitch’ session and to acquire training in the new requirements to integrate the gender and ethics dimension in EU-funded research will also form integral parts of the session.
MSCA alumna Dr Emma Martín Rodríguez of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid said of last year’s event: “This conference gives the opportunity to meet other researchers in the same situation and sharing experiences. I also really enjoyed the interesting talks on the employability of PhDs.”

The event begins on 28 July with a welcoming speech by ESOF 2016 champion Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell and an opening speech by Patricia Reilly of the European Commission. Other key speakers of the opening day include Professor Ottoline Leyser of the University of Cambridge and Dr Ivo Grigorov of Technical University of Denmark.

Day two, 29 July, includes speeches given by Associate Professor Astrid Linder of Monash University, Melbourne, Australia and Professor Anne Inger Helmen Borge of the University of Oslo, as well as a workshop on how proposals for EU research programme Horizon 2020 should be delivered to comply with EU ethical standards.

Registration for the event can be completed here.
