Final days for some Excellent Science calls

The final deadline for submitting project proposals to several calls under Horizon 2020’s 2014-2015 work programme take place this week.

The final deadline for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions ‘Innovative Training Networks’ (ITN) scheme, as part of the 2014-2015 Work Programme, is 13 January 2015. The scheme aids joint research training and/or doctoral programmes and support training outside an academic environment. The scheme helps improve innovation and employability skills and has a budget of €370m.

Also closing this week are calls regarding research infrastructures. The ‘e-infrastructures’ call covers the topics ‘Centres of excellence for computing applications’ and ‘e-Infrastructures for virtual research environments’ and has a budget of €80.5m. Whilst the first call emphasises the need for the creation of a limited number of centres of excellence to guarantee EU competitiveness in the application of high performance computing, the second call focuses on the development of virtual research environments, with an emphasis on progressing capacity building in interdisciplinary research communities.

A further call closing this week is the ‘Developing new world class research infrastructures’, which covers the topic ‘Individual implementation and operation of European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures projects’; it has a funding worth €97m.

The final call closing is the ‘Support to innovation, human resources, policy and international co-operation’. With a budget of €2.5m, the ‘New professions and skills for e-infrastructures’ topic focus on ensuring researchers have a suitable skill set regarding computing and handling and storing digital data.

The final day for submitting applications for the four research infrastructure topics is 14 January 2015.
