INTRAW meets for second workshop

Experts involved in the Horizon 2020-funded project INTRAW met recently to discuss how to enhance the European Union’s International Observatory for Raw Materials, which is due to be launched by the project’s end.

INTRAW began in 2015 and intends to map best practices and boost co-operation opportunities related to raw materials between the EU and five technologically advanced ‘reference’ countries: Australia, Canada, Japan, South Africa and the US.

The outcome of the mapping and knowledge transfer activities will be used as a baseline to set up and launch a definitive raw materials knowledge management infrastructure, i.e. the EU’s International Observatory for Raw Materials.

During the project’s second workshop in Cornwall, UK, on 5-7 October, representatives met to validate reports prepared by the project consortium on raw materials research and innovation, education and outreach, and industry and trade in the five reference countries.

These three reports underpin the development of a better understanding of the achievements made in the five countries in relation to the entire raw materials value chain.

Representatives also offered input on the development of the business model of the observatory.

INTRAW brings together an international consortium of 15 partners with extensive experience in research, innovation, education, industry, trade and global networking across the entire raw materials value chain. It is due to end in January 2018.
