ITRE MEPs to debate Juncker Plan and TTIP

The agenda for this month’s ITRE committee meeting has been published, with MEPs set to discuss the Juncker Investment Plan for Europe and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) in a fortnight.

The meeting will take place between 23-24 February 2015 in Brussels and will also include a presentation entitled ‘Better Regulation’ by First European Commission Vice-President, Frans Timmermans. European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Günther Oettinger, will also address the ITRE Committee, discussing ‘Structured Dialogue’.

This will be one of the first discussions of the Juncker plan by the ITRE committee. Whilst the group of MEPs will not formally submit a position on the legislative proposal, their thoughts and opinions will be adopted tale quale by the two lead European Parliament committees, namely Economic and Monetary Affairs and Budgets.

MEPs will also discuss closely the recommendations to the European Commission on the negotiations for TTIP and hold a public hearing on the ‘Impact of TTIP on ITRE policy areas’. Additionally, the committee will discuss legislation regarding green growth opportunities for SMEs, the European Energy Security Strategy and a new EU Forest Strategy.
