Ricardo and CE Delft evaluate H2020 impact

The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy (DG Energy) has recruited UK firm Ricardo Energy & Environment and Dutch consultancy CE Delft to evaluate the impact of Horizon 2020.

The assessment will also include an evaluation on the way in which the programme has been implemented and managed.

EU Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete is ultimately responsible for DG Energy. The Directorate-General was founded in 2010 to develop an effective EU energy policy. DG Energy is responsible for the management of projects and for providing financial support to technological development and innovation in the energy sector.

Horizon 2020 was announced by then commissioner for science and innovation Máire Geoghegan-Quinn in 2011, and has been functional for around two years. As part of H2020, DG Energy has pledged to perform regular reviews and evaluations. CE Delft and Ricardo Energy & Environment are experts in research, environment and engineering that have been commissioned to offer their expertise and experience in the independent analysis.

Horizon 2020 supports research and innovation that contributes to science, industrial development and social challenges faced by Europe and the rest of the world. DG Energy aims to support an energy market in Europe in which citizens and businesses can make use of innovative and renewable energy technology and advanced energy services realised through the Horizon 2020 programme.

DG Energy also promotes sustainable energy, transport and consumption, and is tasked with improving the conditions for Europe’s energy supply.
