Energy project launches second day of kick-off meeting

A Horizon 2020 project focusing on thermal energy storage technologies is beginning the second day of its kick-off meeting.

The ‘PhD on Innovation Pathways for TES’, or INPATH-TES, project is currently holding its first meeting in Brussels (16-17 June). The project is being co-ordinated by the University of Lleida in Spain and has 22 participants from 14 different countries.

The project is receiving just over €4.3m from the European Commission and aims to create a network of universities and research institutes to implement a joint PhD programme on thermal energy storage technologies and applications. The result of such a network is to educate professionals on these technologies for the European research and industry institutions.

INPATH-TES will run for 36 months and it is anticipated that students and professors will benefit from the results. The project will lead to the qualification of professionals for European research and industry institutions, helping Europe to continue to be leaders in thermal energy storage technologies. The venture will help to make PhD education more efficient and will particularly include practical training with research infrastructures and experimental facilities that will provide job skills to PhD candidates.

The consortium comprises 13 universities that will implement the joint PhD programme, as well as three research institutions, three companies and two SMEs that will co-operate in defining the programme and in its implementation and deployment. KIC InnoEnergy is involved in the Horizon 2020 project.
