Over 65 applications for second stage low carbon energy call

The European Commission has announced that it has received 68 applications to the second stage of its ‘Call for competitive low-carbon energy’ under Horizon 2020.

The call’s second application stage closed on 5 May 2015 and a breakdown of results has now been revealed. The Societal Challenges call has a budget of €95m and is split across four themes. The ‘Developing the next generation technologies of renewable electricity and heating/cooling’ topic received 31 applications, whilst the ‘Developing next generation technologies for biofuels and sustainable alternative fuels’ had 23 bids.

The ‘Enabling decarbonisation of the fossil fuel-based power sector and energy intensive industry through CCS’ had eight bids, with the ‘Highly flexible and efficient fossil fuel power plants’ receiving the final six submissions.

The call’s first stage closed on 3 September 2014, when 290 proposals were submitted; 71 bids were judged to pass the threshold of the first stage evaluation.
