€700m to meet European ageing population’s needs

The renewed Active and Assisted Living Research and Development Joint Programme (AAL JP2) will receive more than €700m over seven years under the newly adopted Innovation Investment Package.

The AAL JP2 will receive €175m from the European Commission under Horizon 2020, €350m from industrial partners and at least €175m from EU member states.

The Joint Programme aims to help Europe address the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly ageing population by supporting industry, particularly SMEs, to bring innovative digital products and services for ageing well to the European market. The initiative is intended to give older adults access to more and better products and services for ageing well to enable them to live independently and participate in society and the economy for a longer period.

AAL JP2 also aims to create a larger market for industry at European level and improve EU competitiveness in ICT-based products and services for ageing well. Researchers will benefit from the collaboration with other European experts.
