Lithuania and Azerbaijan expected to expand ICT co-operation

Azerbaijan’s minister for communications and high technologies has announced that he is exploring the possibility of further increasing ICT co-operation with Lithuania.

Ali Abbasov made the remarks following a meeting with Lithuanian Transport and Communications Minister Rimantas Sinkevicius. During the talks, Abbasov also detailed the importance of space industry, broadband internet, nuclear and nanotechnologies, which he cited as key priorities for Azerbaijan.

The two countries have also hinted at possible co-operation in Horizon 2020, with Sinkevicius citing the importance of joint participation in the EU’s research and innovation framework programme. The Lithuanian minister said both countries held close bilateral relations and there were many opportunities for increased co-operation.

Following reforms, Azerbaijan now ranks 49th in the World Economic Forum’s Global Information Technology Report 2014, Network Readiness Index.
