Spreading excellence info day

A workshop focusing on a cross-cutting pillar of Horizon 2020 will be held next year.

The half-day info event will be hosted by the European Commission in Brussels and focuses on 2016 calls under the ‘Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation’ pillar.

The pillar covers teaming and twinning actions as well as ERA Chairs, and details relating to such calls are set to be presented during the event. The workshop takes place on 2 February 2016.

According to the European Commission, the teaming instrument, introduced under Horizon 2020, helps improve research performance and increase investment in countries with lower research excellence rankings.

Meanwhile, twinning aims to strengthen a field of research in a particular knowledge institution through creating a link between the centre and at least two internationally-leading research institutions in other EU member states. The ERA Chairs scheme aims to bridge Europe’s innovation divide, between low and high-research performing countries. Once recruited, the ERA Chairs and their teams perform research in a wide number of scientific fields.

The ‘Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation’ pillar has a total budget of €816.5m under the seven-year EU research and innovation framework programme.
